Nairobi is probably the best place in East Africa for buying African curios, souvenirs, traditional fabrics, beads, pottery, rugs, woven artifacts and wool. There are several good local crafts markets, featuring pieces from Kenya and as far afield as West Africa. One of the most unique shopping experience is the Maasai Market. This is where over 350 craftsmen dorned in Maasai attire sell unique arts and crafts. The Maasai are a dominant culture in Kenya whose cultural accessories and ornaments make for must have souvenirs that carries with them memories of the Kenyan experience. The Maasai Market is opened during different days at different venues. On Tuesday it is at the Upper Car Park at Westagate Shopping Centre in Westlands, On Wednesdays its at Capital Centre along Mombasa Road, On Friday its at the upper car park at Village Market, on Saturday its at Nairobi High Court Parking and Sunday it is at the Nairobi High Court Parking and Yaya Centre outside parking. The abundance and quality of arts and crafts is unrivalled, allowing both tourists and residents to appreciate Kenya and Africa's finest works.

 

If you’re looking for just about anything else, from clothing to electronics, Nairobi also boasts a number of excellent, modern shopping centres, malls, supermarkets & department stores. Nairobi has modern shopping experiences from the following major malls: Sarit Centre and Westgate Shopping Centre in Westlands, Nakumatt Junction, Yaya centre in Hurlingham and Capital Centre on Mombasa Road. If you are looking for supermarket brands then you can go for Nakumatt Supermarkets positioned in all the major malls, Tuskys, Uchumi and Chandarana supermarkets.
