The Great Wildebeest Migration is one of the Seven New Wonders of the World
This year the migration started on the 20th of June 2013 and the first crossing was at the Sand River toward the larger Mara ecosystem and the second was spotted at the Mara river bridge towards the Mara triangle. Wildebeest arrive at the Mara River in their tens of thousands, and gather waiting to cross as the numbers swell they eventually start off the crossing at a point of their choice thus there is no given point per say for the crossing.
This massive crossing can be witnessed best in the morning at around 0900 hrs to 1100 hrs and sometimes in the afternoon at 1500 hrs to 1600 hrs. They crisscross the Mara ecosystem in their entire stay in Kenya at different times in huge herds together with the Zebras where they will be hunted down by the big carnivores. They travel through large distance very quickly for they are on the run always and this ensures that they get the grass to feast on as well as they are well dispersed within the massive Mara plains.
Sarova Mara Game Camp is strategically located at the hub of the migration corridor for the wildebeests. Amazing packages have been provided to give the public an opportunity to witness nature’s most extraordinary journeys. The Sarova Mara and Sarova Hotels twitter handles and Facebook pages will keep you updated with the activities as they happen daily i.e. @SAROVAHOTELSKEN and @sarovamara respectively.
Keep it Sarova!
