Launch of Sandy Vohra Picnic Site
Environment Pillar
Sandy Vohra foundation in collaboration with Nairobi Greenline Trust, Kenya Wildlife Services and Sarova Hotels launched The Sandy Vohra picnic site and walking trail on Saturday 21st March 2015. The site will offer hundreds of city dwellers a chance to spend time out in the clean and safe natural environment, for their rest and recreation.
The Sandy Vohra Foundation was started in 2010, in memory of Sandy Vohra, and former Managing Director of the Sarova Hotels. The Foundation's purpose is to initiate and to partner with projects that enhance the world around us. Sandy was a visionary leader and a passionate conservationist. He believed in preserving and changing the world around him. He preferred life to blend with nature and had many dreams to beautify and preserve the environs of Nairobi and Kenya at large.
Together with KWS, numerous CSR projects were birthed under Sandy Vohra's leadership, from the planting of 10,000 trees in Nakuru National Park to Cycling with the Rhinos and in turn raising awareness on these endangered species. The essence of his being was about transforming the life of those around him and enhancing the world he lived in. Nothing waited, nothing deterred him. Action was always immediate.
The Nairobi Greenline is a project that invites industries, conservationists, corporate organizations and the public to join the campaign to grow 300,000 trees from the Cheetah Gate in Athi River to the Carnivore restaurant to protect and enforce the Nairobi National Park boundary fence.
Known for his love for the environment and animals, coupled by his genuine zest for life, the Sandy Vohra Picnic Site is a fitting ode to a most remarkable individual.
