Twenty four hours in Sarova Shaba
A 45 minute flight or a 5 hour picturesque road trip opens up the idealistic world that is Sarova Shaba Game Lodge. Located in the tranquil Shaba National Reserve in Samburu county, this became home to George and Joy Adamsons, whose lives the movies “Born Free” and “To walk with lions” were modeled after.
Sarova Shaba, built around a natural breathtaking terrain attractively laid out with Chalet style rooms that have views of the Ewaso Nyiro River, Natural spring water has been harnessed to ribbon its way in and out, all around the property creating a beautiful ambiance for the lodge that you have to see to believe it.
What would 24 hours in Sarova Shaba look like you ask?
Check in
Be greeted with a cold glass of juice and a chilled hand towel to wipe away the stresses of the world, even if for a minute.
We pride ourselves in a swift hassle free check in process that will see you in your room or suite in record time.
Rooms
Have your pick from our chalet style rooms that all offer amazing views of the Ewaso Nyiro river and the numerous live springs that run across the lodge. Alternatively splurge for our Born Free that encapsulates the Samburu culture in its interior décor with a splash of luxury.
Restaurant
Postpone the urge to lay down and go chow down at our Surpelei restaurant which is raised on stilts overlooking the lush gardens, the river and free form pool. The restaurant is fitted with elaborate buffet counters, but just incase you don’t find what you are craving, our chefs are on hand to cater to you, literally.
Pool
Take a dip in our uniquely designed pool, little known fact… the Sarova Shaba swimming pool is gun shaped.
Excursions
Or if you would rather take a camel ride to take in the scenic views of Shaba landscape, take a camel ride along the river, we would be glad to hoist you on to the camel and send you on your way (not really, the Samburu morans will be right by your side to ensure you have an enjoyable time)
Before anything else, we eat! Have your lunch served from our very own vegetable and herb garden that embodies the freshness and quality that has become synonymous with our cuisine brand Kitchens of Sarova.
Spend the afternoon visiting an authentic, lived in, Samburu village and watch the beautifully beaded and decorated Samburu Morans performing cultural dances and songs. A resident culturalist will be on hand to take you through an indepth look on the culture and traditions of the Samburu community. Cap this off by a game drive and, if nature is kind, you will experience the strange and out-of-the-ordinary species of northern Kenya. This game drive is designed for the person who is not just after the cats and the Great Migration, but loves remote areas and landscape, and wants to see new species and places that are off-the-beaten track. Apart from Samburu's Special Five – reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, gerenuk, Somali ostrich and beisa oryx – you'll also be able to see white and black rhino and the rare bongo.
Tulia Spa
When back at the lodge, have a massage done at Tulia Spa as you prepare for sundowner cocktails.
Sundowner cocktails and Bush Dinner
Watching the sunset over a cocktail drink at the rocks with the breeze in your hair, is the perfect way to soothe into the evening. Samburu Morans usher guests to dinner on the rocks that is accentuated by long shadows cast by a most amazing bonfire.
After close to 24 hours with us, retire to your room and get a well deserved rest. In Samburu, instead of saying Teperie nkai (which is good night in English) we say Keishupat duo oleng, which means It was very nice and after a day like today, we surely hope the feeling is mutual.
