World International Day of Monuments and Sites
The National Museums of Kenya (NMK) is a State Corporation that manages Museums, Sites and Monuments in Kenya. It is a regional centre of excellence in heritage.
The International Day for Monuments and Sites is held annually around the world with different types of activities, including visits to monuments and heritage sites, conferences, round tables and newspaper articles. The aim is to promote awareness about the diversity of cultural heritage of humanity, their vulnerability and the efforts required for their protection, promotion and conservation.
Monuments have been created for thousands of years, and they are often the most durable and famous symbols of ancient civilizations. Nairobi has over 50 monument sites and this is the first time Nairobi is celebrating with the theme "Heritage of Commemoration".
The Heritage Nairobi city walk launched for locals, guests visiting Nairobi, stop overs will be at Thorn Tree Restaurant, which is one of the monumental sites in Nairobi. This presents a new business opportunity for us .Other than Thorn Tree being part of the Heritage walk, we have partnered with National Museums to offer our guests nightday tour packages day tour packages, picnic packages, visits to their museums etc.
According to Ms. Anne Othoro County of Nairobi County Executive Committee member Trade, Industrialization, Cooperative Development and Tourism, other than the scenic beaches and wildlife that are known to be the main tourist attractions, they are committed to preserve and protect our national heritage through the Launch of the Historic Nairobi City Heritage walk.
