Kisumu Impala Sanctuary

Approximately 3 km from the Central Business District and 15 minutes away from Sarova Imperial Hotel, this sanctuary is home to herds of Impala and is host to a variety of flora and fauna among them over 115 bird species. The big 5 also thrive here which include lion, buffalo, leopard & rhino, except for the elephant. Several nature trail circuits are available and open to guests for leisurely strolls in the great outdoors. The sanctuary is also home to five campsites all with spectacular views of Lake Victoria. Glass bottomed boat rides compliment the activities availed at the sanctuary.

Opened in 1980, the museum contains exhibits that feature the cultural history of western Kenya, including a fully set up Luo homestead, the tribe predominant to Kisumu. The museum is located approximately 3 km from the Central Business District, along the Kisumu - Kericho highway, within Milimani Estate. Attached to Kisumu Museum are a number of sites and monuments of historical significance including Fort Tenan, Songhor, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Mausoleum, Thimlich Ohinga World Heritage Site, and Tom Mboya Mausoleum.

Ndere Island National Park

This is yet another of the scenic natural habitats found on Lake Victoria, with an abundance of wildlife thriving on its shores such as hippos, monitor lizards, crocodiles, several bird & fish species, and baboons among many others. The park is great for guided hikes & walks. It can be accessed through the Kisumu- Bondo Road to the park headquarters sandwiched between Asat and Bao Beach. It can also be accessed by water via a speed-boat trip, 45 minutes away from Kisumu City. The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) office connects tourists to local guides with speedboat access at a fee.

Located 3km from the central business district, these sites provide an authentic experience of the fishing tribe of Kisumu, allowing one to enjoy a delicious meal of tilapia fresh off the boat. One can relax and unwind under clear blue skies, watching the boats dock while some take off fishing. The sunsets here are particularly thrilling.

Kit Mikayi

Kit Mikayi

Meaning "stone of the first wife" in Dholuo, Kit Mikayi is a natural rock formation about 120 meters high and one of Kisumu's most treasured attractions. It is a UNESCO heritage site, and the locals here treat it as a shrine, accessing it for various reasons including praying, taking oaths, performing rituals and associated practices as well as enjoying its natural beauty. It is located approximately 29Kms from the central business district.

Kisumu Town is a peaceful place with a relatively small central business district. Navigating through various points, on foot or in a taxi is also quite easy. However, it is advisable not to walk at night past 7:00 pm. Hailing a taxi is also quite easy and the concierge desk at the reception are at hand to assist should you have any queries.
